My Tacho privacy policy

How driver-card records, identity checks, purchases, exports and support information are handled.

Who is responsible

Donut Development LTD provides My Tacho. Contact hello@donutdevelopment.com for privacy questions. Our registered office is 2 Knappers Way, Costessey, Norwich, Norfolk, NR8 5GF, United Kingdom; company number 17135348; ICO registration ZC213169.

Records processed on your device

My Tacho processes driver name, date of birth, card and driving licence details, original downloads, activity times, vehicle registrations, recorded places, events and faults. It also keeps your working-rules settings, notes, reviews and app-entered activity. These support your personal record and the app’s calculations. Native iOS and Android libraries use local SQLite storage; browser previews use IndexedDB. Original source files and older reads remain until the library is erased; grouping the download list does not delete them. A recovery copy from an older storage format may remain on the device. No app account is required. There is no developer-operated cloud service receiving your card history during normal use, and the current app has no advertising or app analytics integration.

Checking that the card is yours

The first accepted card establishes an identity reference on the device. Later reads are compared with it to reduce accidental imports of someone else’s records. Replacement review displays only name, date of birth, driving licence number and tachograph card number. Incoming activity is hidden until acceptance. Low-confidence matches cannot be accepted. Rejected pending reads are discarded rather than added to your library. This is a local consistency check, not independent authentication of ownership or card authenticity.

Purchases and pending imports

Apple or Google processes payments under its own terms and privacy policy. The app stores purchase entitlement information and whether the free supported import has been used; we do not receive your payment-card details through the app. A supported import waiting for an unlock may be retained locally until you import or discard it. Store transactions and platform diagnostics are separate from the app’s local card records.

Exports, backups and other services

You decide when to export original files, reports or password-encrypted app backups. Reports and original files are not automatically encrypted and can contain sensitive driver history. Recipients and file providers you choose may receive those files. Operating-system backups may also contain app data according to your device settings. Local app storage relies on device protections and is not additionally password-encrypted by My Tacho. Keep your device and backup password secure; we cannot recover a lost backup password.

Support and the website

If you email us, we receive your email address and what you choose to send, and our email service processes that correspondence. Send the minimum needed to explain the issue; do not send another driver’s records or full card downloads by default. We use support information to answer enquiries and investigate faults. Contract is our basis where necessary to provide requested product support; legitimate interests in resolving enquiries and maintaining the product apply to general correspondence. We retain messages only while needed to resolve the enquiry, investigate related faults, handle disputes or meet legal obligations. See the website privacy information for hosting and website requests. Apple, Google, backup, file and email services may process data in other countries under their own arrangements and applicable safeguards.

Retention and deletion

Your local library remains until app data is erased or the app is fully removed, subject to your operating system’s backup and restore settings. Offloading an app may retain its data. Exported files, shared copies and device backups must be managed separately where they are stored. Clearing app data does not cancel store purchase records. Donut Development cannot remotely retrieve or delete a library held only on your device. Contact us about deletion of information you sent to support.

Your choices and rights

Where we hold personal information about you, applicable data protection rights may include access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability and objection, depending on the circumstances and legal basis. Contact us to make a request or raise a concern. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office. App findings are guidance for your review; we do not use them to make employment or enforcement decisions about you.

Changes to this policy

This policy covers the released iOS and Android apps, as well as any testing versions. We will update this page if the way information is handled changes. The date above identifies this version.
