Your My Tacho guide

Read your card, understand your hours and keep your own record.

Download My Tacho

Available now for iPhone and iPad on the App Store, and Android phones, tablets and folding phones on Google Play. Your first successful supported import is free.

Start with your card

  1. Connect a compatible reader and insert your own driver card.
  2. Open Read card → Read my driver card. On Android, allow USB access. Keep the card and reader connected until the read finishes.
  3. Check your name and working-rules setup. Your first accepted card establishes this device’s driver reference.

Reader models, adapters and connection help. Saved files can be added under Other ways to add records.

Understand Today

Start with Last card read and Activity assessed up to. Reading the card today does not mean every activity is known up to today. Assessment stops at the last supported card-out boundary; read again for later activity. The app does not turn all time after that boundary into missing-activity warnings.

Then review your latest shift, the dated week and two-week driving totals, and your longer WTD average. These are recorded totals, not a live driving allowance. Your personal read reminder is not a statutory download deadline.

Explore Records

Activity times and manual-entry fields use UTC, as labelled in the app. During British Summer Time, UK local time is one hour ahead of UTC. Check the displayed timezone before entering or comparing times.

Hours shows the selected week’s driving and work, two-week driving and reference-period information. Shifts groups activity across midnight and lets you open the timeline. Calendar starts at the current month; choose another month to find older records.

Other records contains card events, vehicles and places, and Downloads. Read card shows the latest three reads; Downloads groups the full history by month and loads more entries when requested. Original files remain available. Similar or duplicate downloads do not mean you worked twice.

Read the activity colours

Use the pictogram and label as well as the colour: driving, other work, availability and break/rest. Purple other work is an activity, not a warning. Possible issues and conflicting records have separate status symbols. An empty day does not prove rest. App-entered activity and assumptions are labelled.

Working time (WTD)

Work means driving plus other work; availability and breaks/rest are excluded. Choose the start date and agreed 17- or 26-week reference period in your working-rules settings. The app displays the dates, work total and average per week together.

An in-progress average uses elapsed time only. Future weeks are excluded; missing activity is not proof of zero work. Check the coverage message. Work away from the card and holiday or sick-leave adjustments may change the assessment; the displayed average is not a complete payroll or employer WTD record.

Review a finding

Open Checks, then the relevant item. Read the activity, dates, rule and explanation. A possible infringement differs from missing evidence or conflicting records. Add a note and acknowledge an issue once reviewed; acknowledged items remain in history and can be reopened. Acknowledgement does not erase an infringement.

Explain a gap or off-card work

At the next insertion, complete the tachograph’s manual-entry prompt with the activity that actually happened. A later card read can bring supported recorded manual entries into My Tacho. Inserting or reading the card alone does not fill gaps, and old gaps may need separate supporting records.

For an eligible gap in My Tacho, assign a whole rest period or add timed activities without splitting at midnight. Only mark rest if you rested throughout. Automatic rest assignment applies only to eligible closed card-out intervals. App entries stay labelled, never change the physical card and are overridden by later known card records.

Lost-card or stolen-card entries are personal notes, not permission to drive without a card and not substitutes for required printouts. Follow DVSA recording guidance.

Replacement or incorrect card

Later reads are checked against the original driver reference. A sufficiently matching replacement can be confirmed while preserving existing history. A low-confidence different-driver card is blocked. Review shows printed identity details only; incoming activity is not shown before acceptance. Reject an incorrect card. First-use honesty is still required: this is not independent ownership authentication.

Unlock and restore purchases

The first successful supported import is free. One purchase unlocks further imports, with no subscription. The app shows the current platform-store price when available. Existing records, reviews and exports remain accessible.

Use Card → Unlimited imports → Restore purchases with the store account used to buy. Apple and Google purchases are separate. Test purchases do not grant production ownership. If the price is unavailable, refresh store information and check your connection. A pending import stays on this device until imported or discarded.

Back up and move devices

Use Card → Backups & exports to create a password-encrypted backup. Keep both the file and password safely; we cannot recover a forgotten password. Restore a backup to move your library. There is no automatic cloud sync between devices.

The native apps use local SQLite storage. Originals and history are retained; a long download list is grouped rather than automatically deleted. Card → Privacy & storage shows storage information. Removing the app or clearing its data may remove the library. Exported reports and original files are readable personal information, so share deliberately.

Phones, tablets and folding screens

The layout adapts to window size and orientation. Wide screens gain side navigation and more columns; narrow split-screen windows use the phone layout. The same records stay on that device. Hardware and multitasking compatibility depend on the device.
